10 best dog beaches in Spain
From Costa Brava to Cádiz: sand, waves and zero fines.

Spain has more than 8,000 km of coastline, but finding a beach where your dog can run free is still a patience sport. After three summers sniffing sand from north to south, this is my short list — the one that actually works in 2026.
We start in the Mediterranean. Playa de l'Auir in Gandía is the undisputed queen: kilometres of fine sand, no showers but loads of room. In Catalonia, Riumar (Ebro Delta) is wild and almost always empty — perfect for dogs that need to really run.
Heading down to Andalusia, Cala del Pino in Mojácar allows dogs all year, almost impossible in August. And if you make it to Cádiz, El Palmar opens a dog-friendly stretch off-season with gentle waves, great for water beginners.
The north has hidden gems: Playa del Vivero in Foz (Lugo) and the canine Blue Flag in Asturias. Cold water, yes, but fewer tourists and more forest around.
Three rules I always repeat: bring fresh water, avoid midday in summer, and check the local bylaw before leaving home. Fines in the Balearics can hit €750 — not worth improvising.
